My Total Hours

Through working with the Fayetteville Force and Nimock's Fitness Center I have completed a total of 213 hours for Internship 170.

Nimock's Fitness Center (Dec. 12th - Dec. 18th)

This week wasn't a routine week. The basketball ball teams would be practicing in the fitnees center this week because of the preparation for graduation. This meant that thir would be some extra task to be complete in the building during my shift. I would still have to do everything I ususally would do such as customer service, front desk duty, etc.  The difference this week was that also I would have to make sure the courts were cleared before the teams practiced, that the divider in the middle of the courts had been raised up, that the courts were sweeped before and after practice, and that everything was set up for open gym after the practices ended at 8pm. I worked Monday - Thursday for a total of 15 hours.

My Total Hours So Far..... (6)

I have worked a total of 198 hours so far.

Nimock's Fitness Center(Nov. 28th - Dec. 4th)

This week was a typical week in Nimock's Fitness Center. I helped to make sure the building ran smoothly and was clean and locked down each night. I worked 3 days this week MOnday, Wednesday, Thursday for a toal of 7.5 hours.

Nimock's Fitness Center (Nov. 14th - Nov. 20th)

This week in Nimock's we are still in the process of rearranging the building for maximum efficiency. Like I stated last week, we are trying to lessen the complains in the building about dumbbells. Also this week we ordered a new machine, so we had to find a place for it in the building. I helped along with Cassie Sinkovitz, Kenny Tien with the rearranging of certain machines to make room for the bicep curl machine that was ordered. We also moved the Roman Chair machine to allow more room in the middle area of Nimock's. Then with the help of Dr.Combs we moved the assisted weight bench in the opposite direction it was in, so the people using it would be out of the way of the other machines. We have more plans on how to maximum the space in Nimock's but ran out of the protective black mats so until more are brought the rest of this project we be put on hold. I worked Monday-Thursday for a total of 10 hours.

Nimock's Fitness Center( Nov. 7th - Nov. 13th)

This week we discussed some of the changes we wanted to make in Nimock's Fitness Center. We have been getting alot of complants about Dumbbells being left on track area so we wanted to try to make a designated area for them. The problem is that Nimock's is so small we reallt don't have a place for all the machines. What I ended up doing this week was helping with the start of rearranging the equipment. What we did was move some of the bikes to the front of the building and the sit up area to the back. I worked Monday - Thursday for a total of 10 hours.

Nimock's Fitness Center (Oct. 31st - Nov. 6th)

This week was a typical week in Nimock's. I peformed my usual task and worked 3 days Monday, Wednesday, Thuesday for a total of 7.5 hours.

Nimock's Fitness Center (Oct. 24th - Oct. 30th)

This week was a typical week in Nimock' Fitness Center. I worked the night shift all week and helped with closing the building down. I worked Monday - Thursday for a toal of 10 hours.

Nimock's Fitness Center (Oct.17th - Oct.23rd)

This week we were short staffed because a lot of people were sick. So I ended up with front desk duty(Greet guest as they enter and making sure they swiped there cards) alot more than ususal. I worked Monday - Thursday for a total of 7.5 hours.

Nimock's Fitness Center (Oct. 10th - Oct. 16th)

The concerns I expressed last week came back up this week. When the Director returned she had numerous complaints from guest and work study about last week. I was called in her office to discuss what happened last week. One of the biggest things was customer service skills, so everyone ended up having to go to a customer service training. Other than that everything else was a typical week for me. I worked Monday - Thursday for a total of 10 hours.

Nimock's Fitness Center ( Oct. 3rd - Oct.9th)

This week the Director of Nimock's was out of the building all week, so with all the supervisors only being here for a few weeks I came in at different times throughout the week to help out. I still performed all of my regular task but I also did oversee the building sometime when no supervisor was in the building. One of my biggest concerns was I noticed a lot of employees breaking Nimock's rules. I informed each of them aboutt the rules they were braking and that it needed to be fixed. I worked Monday - Friday for a total of 15 hours.

My Total Hours So Far....... (5)

I have worked a total of 120.5 hours so far.

Nimock's Fitness Center (Sept. 25th -Oct. 2nd)

Now that everyone has been in the building for almost a month I have falling back into my role as a student worker. A lot of the responsibility in the building still falls on me since I am the veteran employee. A problem that arose in the building this week was that the morning shift supervisor was complaining that the mats in the building weren't getting cleaned. Nimocks's director came to me about and I personally ensured her that any night I was in the building the mats were getting clean. Eventually this became one of my tasks that had to be done at night so that she would know they were being cleaned. Another thing that I did a lot this week was front desk duty and watching the person on FDD. Front desk duty is the person that greets guest as they walk into Nimock's and makes sure they swipe their cards. It has come to our attention that people were being allowed into Nimock's without showing ID so I was there watching and reminding employees of the rule. Other then that my duties were the same as last week.  This week I worked Monday - Friday for 17.5 hours.

My Total Hours So Far..... (4)

I have worked a total of 103 hours so far.

Nimock's Fitness Center (Sept. 19th - Sept. 25th)

This week my responsibilities are pretty much the same as they were last week. The only difference is that with me being the only person on the night shift that has previously worked for Nimocks I am pretty much acting as the supervisor until the night shift supervisor is fully trained and comfortable in the building. One of my main goals this week was to make sure everyone understands the rules, regulations and procedures of Nimock's Fitness Center. Also I came in during the day to help out and make it easier on everyone seeing that their is only 5 returning workers to Nimocks. This week I worked Monday thru Friday for a total of 12 hours.

My Total Hours So Far....... (3)

I have worked a total of 91 hours so far.

Nimock's Fitness Center (Sept 12th - Sept. 18th)

This week I found out I will mostly be working at nights but also a few times during the day. The night shift is usually the busiest shift in Nimock's and requires a lot more maintenance, etc. My responsibilities will consist of customer service, helping operate and supervise the operation and maintenance of Nimock's, also making sure that the equipment in Nimock's is maintained and clean, and closing the building down at nights. This week I also came in during the afternoon to help out at the front desk greeting guest and making sure that they swiped into the building because we were still waiting on people to get their contract from career services. I worked Monday thru Friday for a total of 13 hours this week.

My Total Hours So Far....... (2)

So far I have completed a total of 78 total hours.

Nimock's Fitness Center (Sept. 5th - Sept. 11th)

This week I started finishing my internship hours at Nimock's Fitness Center. I previous worked with Nimock's for my work study. Being one of the few returning people from the building last year, one of my main responsibilities this week will be helping to train the new employees. The new employees will go through a training with the Director of Nimock's but the one's that work with me will be shadowing me all week. Some of my other responsibilities will be to help make sure that Nimock's is ran effectively. I worked Monday thru Thursday for a total of 10 hours.

Nimock's Fitness Center

Nimock's Fitness Center is the local fitness center on campus. For the remaining of my 82 hours needed to complete my internship I will be working here.

UPDATE

With all of the problems going on in the Fayetteville Force organization I was unable to finish my internship hours with them. So to finish up my hours I will be working for Nimock's Fitness Center at Methodist University.I will be working as one of the student assistants, gaining experience in facility management.

The Latest on the Force

Unfortunately the Fayetteville Force had some issues with player and coaches contracts and many more things. The season was in jeopardy of not being finished but the league entered into an asset deal to make it happen. Because this deal was done at such last minute the league was unable to pick up the contracts of the current Force players and coaches. Therefore they assembled a team of rookies and former arena players that were available to finish out the season.

Sunday March 27th (GameDay)

THE FAYETTEVILLE FORCE 2nd HOME GAME
Today I learned that I would be doing more than just helping the coaches. As soon as me and the other interns arrived to the arena that morning, we were put to work. The first thing that had to be done was that the sponsor signs around the walls of the field had to be stripped and replaced, this is one of  the worst and nastiest job I have ever did. The pasty material used to hold the signs gets all over your hands and took about an hour to get it completely off. Then I rolled t-shirt to be shot out of the cannon gun during the game. Next I helped to set up the "Best seats in the house", which is two comfortable reclining couches. Then we helped out with the youth football league, I ended up helping run the scoreboard. I also filmed the game for Vid Swap. My hours were 9:00am-9:00pm.

Wednesday March 23rd (Practice)

The Force had practice today and I actually was on the field instead of filming today. I got alot of experience on how to interact with players and how a practice is ran from beginning to end. One key aspect of today that I learned was that practice needs to be serious but still enjoyable for the players because it amkes it easier for them to learn the gameplan. My hours were 6:00pm-8:20pm

Friday March 18th (Gameday)

THE FAYETTEVILLE FORCE FIRST HOME GAME
Force vs. Speed
The Force are looking good and seem very prepared for the game today. I became instantly busy as soon I walked into the arena. I had to learn the rules on how to film a game for the Southern Indoor Football League(SIFL) vid swap technology. During the game I filmed the game so that we could review it next week in practice to see where we went wrong and right. The SIFL takes filming of games very serious because the home team is responsible for the film because it is then swapped with all the other coaches. The process of film the game I learned was very big and had to be done right because if it was not the head coach would be suspended by the league for a game.Throughout the day I assisted the coaches when needed and after the game helped to take down the sponsor signs because the local hockey team was still playing in the arena too. My hours were 5:30pm to 10:30pm

Thursday March 17th (Practice)

This is the Fayettevile Force's final practice before the season opener against the Carolina Speed on Friday. This practice, which  is usually reffered to as a Walk-through practice, because no one is making contact and it is meant to correct any last mistakes in the game plan. Today was my first day on the sideline with the coaches and getting to observe how the coaches interact with the players. One thing I learned today was that as a coach yes you have to show your authority but you must still give your players respect, especially at this level seeing that alot of the players are the same age or older than some of the coaching staff. My hours were 6:00pm-9:00pm

Wednesday March 16th (Practice)

The Fayetteville Force had practice again today and I filmed the practice again. The practice film is what we are using to help prepare the team for the upcoming game Friday. Adequate film is an important part of coaching because it allows the caoches to go back and look over practice and possible catch something they didn't during practice and with me being the only intern with previous practice and game filming experience, this responsibility has been given to me. My hours were 6:00pm - 9:00pm.

Tuesday March 15th (Practice)

Again today the Fayetteville Force had practice. Because the organization is small with a small budget, My main goal again for today was to film practice so that the coaches could have footage of how the players were performing and what still needed to be improved. My hours for today were 6:00pm-9:00pm.

Monday March 14th (Practice)

Today is my first official day working with the Fayetteville Force. They are holding practice and this will also the first time that I had a chance to interact with the team as a whole and see the coaches in action. Because it was still early in the season my main goal today was to film the practice so that it could be looked over later to advance the teams progress. Filming games and practices is a skill I have previous expereince in. The only concerns I have so far is that I would like to have been on the sideline with the coaches so that I could have observed up close. My hours for today where 6:00pm-9:00pm.

FAYETTEVILLE FOCRE

For my Internship SMA 170, I choose to work with the Local Indoor Arena Football Team, The Fayetteville Force. For this internship I will mainly be working with Coach Chalres Gunnings, Alex Garmezy and Derek Hardy Jr. I came on board as a coaching intern but will also be helping with game day operations since the force is a small organization. The internship will consist of me helping the coaches with anything needed for practices or games. Also I will be helping out with the youth league and anything needed on gameday.
