Sunday March 27th (GameDay)
THE FAYETTEVILLE FORCE 2nd HOME GAME
Today I learned that I would be doing more than just helping the coaches. As soon as me and the other interns arrived to the arena that morning, we were put to work. The first thing that had to be done was that the sponsor signs around the walls of the field had to be stripped and replaced, this is one of the worst and nastiest job I have ever did. The pasty material used to hold the signs gets all over your hands and took about an hour to get it completely off. Then I rolled t-shirt to be shot out of the cannon gun during the game. Next I helped to set up the "Best seats in the house", which is two comfortable reclining couches. Then we helped out with the youth football league, I ended up helping run the scoreboard. I also filmed the game for Vid Swap. My hours were 9:00am-9:00pm.
Wednesday March 23rd (Practice)
The Force had practice today and I actually was on the field instead of filming today. I got alot of experience on how to interact with players and how a practice is ran from beginning to end. One key aspect of today that I learned was that practice needs to be serious but still enjoyable for the players because it amkes it easier for them to learn the gameplan. My hours were 6:00pm-8:20pm
Friday March 18th (Gameday)
THE FAYETTEVILLE FORCE FIRST HOME GAME
Force vs. Speed
Force vs. Speed
The Force are looking good and seem very prepared for the game today. I became instantly busy as soon I walked into the arena. I had to learn the rules on how to film a game for the Southern Indoor Football League(SIFL) vid swap technology. During the game I filmed the game so that we could review it next week in practice to see where we went wrong and right. The SIFL takes filming of games very serious because the home team is responsible for the film because it is then swapped with all the other coaches. The process of film the game I learned was very big and had to be done right because if it was not the head coach would be suspended by the league for a game.Throughout the day I assisted the coaches when needed and after the game helped to take down the sponsor signs because the local hockey team was still playing in the arena too. My hours were 5:30pm to 10:30pm
Thursday March 17th (Practice)
This is the Fayettevile Force's final practice before the season opener against the Carolina Speed on Friday. This practice, which is usually reffered to as a Walk-through practice, because no one is making contact and it is meant to correct any last mistakes in the game plan. Today was my first day on the sideline with the coaches and getting to observe how the coaches interact with the players. One thing I learned today was that as a coach yes you have to show your authority but you must still give your players respect, especially at this level seeing that alot of the players are the same age or older than some of the coaching staff. My hours were 6:00pm-9:00pm
Wednesday March 16th (Practice)
The Fayetteville Force had practice again today and I filmed the practice again. The practice film is what we are using to help prepare the team for the upcoming game Friday. Adequate film is an important part of coaching because it allows the caoches to go back and look over practice and possible catch something they didn't during practice and with me being the only intern with previous practice and game filming experience, this responsibility has been given to me. My hours were 6:00pm - 9:00pm.
Tuesday March 15th (Practice)
Again today the Fayetteville Force had practice. Because the organization is small with a small budget, My main goal again for today was to film practice so that the coaches could have footage of how the players were performing and what still needed to be improved. My hours for today were 6:00pm-9:00pm.
Monday March 14th (Practice)
Today is my first official day working with the Fayetteville Force. They are holding practice and this will also the first time that I had a chance to interact with the team as a whole and see the coaches in action. Because it was still early in the season my main goal today was to film the practice so that it could be looked over later to advance the teams progress. Filming games and practices is a skill I have previous expereince in. The only concerns I have so far is that I would like to have been on the sideline with the coaches so that I could have observed up close. My hours for today where 6:00pm-9:00pm.
FAYETTEVILLE FOCRE
For my Internship SMA 170, I choose to work with the Local Indoor Arena Football Team, The Fayetteville Force. For this internship I will mainly be working with Coach Chalres Gunnings, Alex Garmezy and Derek Hardy Jr. I came on board as a coaching intern but will also be helping with game day operations since the force is a small organization. The internship will consist of me helping the coaches with anything needed for practices or games. Also I will be helping out with the youth league and anything needed on gameday.
